This CD contains all the tracks originally issued under Sy Oliver's name between Dec. 1949 and Jan. 1952. Within these two years, Oliver organized, composed, arranged and supervised scores of studio sessions for fellow leaders. No wonder he later remarked that others made a lot of money based on his work! The recreations of material he had contributed to Jimmie Lunceford's orchestra rank among the musical highlights on this CD. The improved sound quality of these recordings also allows a more profound appreciation of Oliver's colorful and ingenuous arrangements. This CD also features some interesting rarities.
